The UK Boxer

What is the difference between a German Boxer and an American Boxer? How about a UK Boxer? The answer is very little. All are considered to be 1 breed: The Boxer.

However, each of these 3 Boxers have very slight differences. Dogs of these countries are bred to perfect these slight variances.

This UK Boxer fits the UK Standard precisely: Small feet with high knuckles, considered to be very elegant.

The German Boxer

The biggest difference between the German Boxer and the American or UK Boxer is bone size.

As you can see on this champion German Boxer, the bone structure is slightly larger than the American or UK Boxers.

With German Boxers, the nose is generally smaller; however only by a very small degree. The width of the thigh is slightly wider than the other types.

The American Boxer

The most noticeable difference between an American Boxer and the German Boxer or UK Boxer is the tight, shiny skin and coat. As you can see, the skin (other than the head) has no wrinkles. Most, but not all, will have a tighter coat.

The American Boxer, as well as the German Boxer stands differently than the UK Boxer due to the shape of the paws, knuckles and ankles.

Generally the muzzle and nose on the American Boxer is wider than the German or UK Boxer.

There are many breeds of bulldogs but by far the most popular and well known are the English Bulldog, the French Bulldog and the American Bulldog. Bulldogs are descendents of the Asiatic Mastiffs and were originally used in bull bating arenas as they were strong and brave enough to take on bulls, hence the name Bulldog. After bull baiting became banned bulldogs became pets.

With a large head, shortened muzzle, undershot jaw and a strong, square build, bulldogs appear formidable but these drooling, heavy breathers are big softies that are gentle and patient and one of the most popular dog breeds around.

The differences between the English, French and American bulldog are many. First of all the country of origin is respective to the name, the sizes and temperaments are different as well.

English BulldogThe English bulldog is considered the classic bulldog. It is a medium sized dog. It has a large, stocky body, big head, wrinkled face, short legs and a wide stance. Even though they can look gruff and intimidating they are actually quite gentle and attention seeking with their owners but are quite protective and make an excellent guard dog that intruders wouldn’t want to mess with. They are also bullheaded and determined and can be quite persistent and don’t give up easily. But with an adorable face like that how could you possibly say no?



French Bulldog

The French bulldog, also known as the Frenchie, is smallest of the three bulldogs. It still has the sturdy, stocky body, short legs and the cute wrinkled face but everything is on a smaller scale. This dog is a great lap dog and is fun, playful and affectionate but not yappy. They have less health issues and a slightly longer life expectancy than English bulldogs and also get along great with other animals.





American Bulldog

The American bulldog is the largest of the three. This is a large sized, athletic, agile dog. It has longer legs than the English and French Bulldogs. Where the English bulldog would prefer to lounge around the American bulldog loves activity and sports. This dog is very loyal, reliable, brave and determined and is known for its acts of heroism toward its master. It also genuinely loves children and is very protective of its owners.
